key creatives

Paul Barakat has been immersed in cinema since childhood, beginning his career in his late teens as a freelance camera operator and editor before expanding into writing, directing, and producing. He also trained as an actor in the Stella Adler, Stanislavski, and Chekhov traditions, with screen credits including East West 101 and Farscape.
His work includes award-winning short films such as Fragments, which screened internationally, and Gish, a multi-platform science-fiction project that included a comic book collaboration with Marvel artist Marcelo Baez.
His multi-award winning debut feature film Kairos was critically acclaimed upon its release in 2019, and acquired for distribution by Pinnacle Films.
Alongside his creative work, Paul has held senior leadership roles in film education, including Head of Teaching at the International Film School Sydney (now AFTT) and Academic Chair of NYFA Australia.
Carla Barakat's first foray into the film industry was in the year 2000, when she got a wonderful opportunity to work closely with cast and crew on the set of Baz Lurhmann’s ‘Moulin Rouge’.
After falling in love with the behind the scenes magic, Carla turned her attention to studying and working in various aspects of production and fashion design, culminating in the launch of her event-planning business, Sugarcumb Inc., which serves both local and international clientele.
She has also worked in multiple roles across key creative departments on nearly every one of her husband's films, including producing, costume and production design, make-up and script editing.

She most recently produced the multi-award winning, theatrically distributed indie feature, 'Kairos'.
